Desolation of Smaug

First off, let me start by saying 2013 is the first time I have ever heard anyone pronounce the Dragon’s name as Smaug (like Sm-ow-g) instead of like Smog. I know how it’s spelled but still, even in the original Disney movie version I heard them say what sounded like “smog.” That’s number 1 🙂 number 2, Peter Jackson has done it a-freakin-gin! WOW!

We always let you know whether that extra $3-$5 is worth it when going to the movies for 3D and in this case it’s definitely worth it. We rejoin the company of Dwarves (with the added hobbit) as they make their way to reclaim their lost Erebor. Our brave hobbit Bilbo (Martin Freeman) has become more comfortable when using his magical ring he discovered (in the initial “The Hobbit” movie) and it comes in handy quite often in this film. Gandalf (Ian McKellen) catches the gang off-guard when his curiosity leads him to investigate recent happenings in Dol Guldur. We also are introduced to 2 new characters whom haven’t been labeled as friend or foe just yet, in Legolas (Orlando Bloom) and Tauriel (Evangeline Lilly).

This movie is an epic 9.5 out of 10. Some of you may be thinking “why didn’t he just give it a 10?” Because of the ending. I know I wasn’t wrong in my feelings because we found the entire theater voicing their opinions as well. Giving you more reason to go join the Dwarf faction and continue on their epic adventure! 😀
