Three Dream players came off the bench to score in double digits in the Dream’s 74-58 loss to the New York Liberty Sunday afternoon at State Farm Arena.

The Dream (2-8) held the Liberty (5-7) to just 9.1 percent shooting from the three-point range but failed to get anything going on the offensive side of the ball.

Brittney Sykes came off the bench to score a team-leading 18 points, going 4-of-5 from the arc and adding on 6 rebounds. Renee Montgomery added 11 points while Elizabeth Williams finished with 10 points and 8 rebounds.

  • Tonight’s match against the Liberty was Maite Cazorla’s first career start.
  • Guard Natisha Hiedeman was waived by the Dream Sunday.
  • Alex Bentley returns from Eurobasket and will meet the team in Minnesota on Monday, July 1.

Defensive issues were the theme of the night in the Dream’s loss. “We did have some lapses where our traps weren’t what we wanted them to be. We could’ve rebounded a little more consistently and kind of finished those defensive plays,” said Elizabeth Williams post-game. “But I think, and coach mentioned it before, our defense probably could’ve won us this game. Offensively, we just weren’t able to put it together.”

Atlanta opens a three-game road stretch this week, facing Minnesota Tuesday, Seattle Friday and Phoenix Sunday. The Dream return home next Wednesday, July 10 for Carnival Kids Day presented by Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta beginning at 11:00 a.m.
