Good day all!
Recently we saw a movie called Arbitrage starring Richard Gere and Susan Sarandon and it was pretty good! The movie was aptly titled as the term is defined as the simultaneous buying and selling of securities, currency, or commodities in different markets in order to take advantage of differing prices (Ah yes stock market jargon!). We think it qualifies as a movie that ‘flew under the radar’ because over the course of 2 weeks we could only count 3 commercials we saw promoting the film. But in its defense we first heard of the film 3 months ago on Front Row for the Mac (an app that let’s you view movies that are coming out).
Robert Miller (Richard Gere) is a hedge fund magnate who was known for making incredible gains within his scope. But it was the one investment he made outside of his specialty that was his greatest downfall. Everything that happens in the movie is a direct result of this bad investment and the situation is exacerbated by a hidden affair. His wife Ellen (Susan Sarandon) is pretty quiet in the movie while their daughter Brooke (Brit Marling) has a more pivotal role in the film. Since Robert included his daughter in his business there comes a point where a decision by her could make or break not only his career, but his life.
Online we’ve seen reviews of 3 and a half stars (out of 5) to ratings of 6.5 out of 10. But we’re here to tell you that it’s a good 7.5 (out of 10). The only reason why we say 7.5 is because it’s not bad, but it’s not great either. Again, it’s one of those films that we’d say if you’re bored on a Saturday? Have the day off from work with nothing to do? Looking for something random to see while on a date? Then go see this movie. Or if you’re a fan of Richard Gere or Susan Sarandon then you’d be pleased. Aside from that we say wait for it to come on TV or hit up the always reliable Red Box.
