Atlanta Film Festival 365 (ATLFF365) has announced the opening night selection for the 2013 Atlanta Film Festival (ATLFF). The 37th Annual Atlanta Film Festival will open with the feature film MUD, starring Matthew McConaughey and Reese Witherspoon.
This drama from Roadside Attractions is about two teens in Arkansas who befriend Mud, a gritty,superstitious character played by Matthew McConaughey. MUD is a story of love, friendship and growing up in the South. MUD also stars Ray McKinnon (Footloose, The Blind Side), Sarah Paulson (Martha Marcy May Marlene, American Horror Story), Michael Shannon and Sam Shepard. Actor Ray McKinnon will be in attendance on opening night. McKinnon is an Academy Award-winning director, his short film, The Accountant, qualified for the Oscars at the Atlanta Film Festival in 2001. “We are excited to welcome Ray McKinnon back to the Atlanta Film Festival.Having industry professionals take part in the festival multiple times over the years is a point of pride,” said Christopher Escobar, ATLFF 365 Executive Director.
The Atlanta Film Festival has a long tradition of showcasing local, national and international films to Atlanta. ATLFF will also showcase Atlanta landmarks and must-see venues. The historic Plaza Theatre and 7 Stages Theatre will be the new home for the Atlanta Film Festival with additional landmarks to be. Escobar remarked, “Over the last year, Atlanta Film Festival 365 and the Plaza Theatre have been working hand in hand so using The Plaza as our flagship screening venue is a natural fit. We are excited to welcome art supporters from Atlanta and beyond not only to this year’s festival but also to the Plaza Theatre.” Now in its thirty-seventh year, the Atlanta Film Festival will continue to bring the best moviemaking to Georgia. The 37th Annual Atlanta Film Festival runs from March 15 – March 24,2013. Passes are currently on sale. Discounted student, senior and military passes are also available.
