Miguel Almirón, Brad Guzan, and Josef Martinez get call-ups for International Duty

Atlanta United announced today that three players have received international call-ups during the upcoming FIFA window. Miguel Almirón (Paraguay), Brad Guzan (USA) and Josef Martinez (Venezuela) have each been called-up to represent their respective countries for matches from Aug. 31-Sept. 5.

Almirón, a 23-year-old midfielder, has played in all 24 games for Atlanta United this season with 22 starts. This season, he has scored eight goals and registered nine assists while being named to the 2017 MLS All-Star Team. Internationally, Almirón has 9 career caps for Paraguay with his most recent coming against Brazil in World Cup Qualification on March 29, 2017. Currently, in eighth place in CONMEBOL, Paraguay plays Chile on Thursday, Aug. 31 and Uruguay on Tuesday, Sept. 5.

Guzan, 32, officially joined Atlanta United during the MLS Secondary Transfer Window on July 10. He’s made five starts since then, registering 16 saves and one clean sheet. With the U.S. Men’s National Team, Guzan has 56 caps, with his most recent coming against Martinique on July 13, 2017, where he served as team captain. Currently, in third place in CONCACAF, USA plays Costa Rica on Friday, Sept. 1 and Honduras on Tuesday, Sept. 5.

Martinez, 24, has appeared in 11 games for Atlanta United this season with eight starts. The forward has scored nine goals and has added one assist. With Venezuela, Martinez has 38 career appearances and has scored nine goals, including five in World Cup Qualification. Venezuela hosts Colombia on Thursday, Aug. 31 and travels to Argentina on Tuesday, Sept. 5.

Atlanta United returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 10 as the club will make its debut at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, taking on FC Dallas. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. and will be televised nationally on FS1.
