Atlanta United returns to action on Saturday, May 5 when it faces Chicago Fire at Toyota Park. The match is scheduled to kick-off at 8:30 p.m. EST and will be televised on FOX Sports Southeast.
Atlanta United defeated Montreal Impact 4-1 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on April 28 behind a pair of braces from midfielders Miguel Almirón and Kevin Kratz. Montreal scored first on a header from Saphir Taider in the 13‘ minute and defended waves of Atlanta attacks to maintain the advantage until Almirón leveled the match from the penalty spot in the 70‘ minute. Kratz, who came on as a substitute in the 74‘ minute, curled in the game-winning goal on a free kick in the 78‘ minute. Almirón finished off an Atlanta counter-attack in the 84‘ minute to extend the lead to 3-1 and Kratz whipped in his second free kick of the day in stoppage time to become the first player in MLS history to score two free kicks goals in a substitute appearance. The German midfielder won MLS Goal of the Week while Almirón took home both MLS Player of the Week and Month honors.
Chicago is coming off a 2-2 draw at BMO Field in Toronto in which the Fire battled back from a two-goal deficit to earn a point on the road. Jonathan Osorio and Victor Vazquez each scored first half goals for Toronto, who held on to a 2-0 lead until Bastian Schweinsteiger scored in the 69‘ minute. Chicago’s Alan Gordon tied the match in stoppage time, again playing the role of super-sub to salvage a point for the visitors.
