Atlanta enters the match atop the Supporters’ Shield Standings (14-4-5, 47 points) while Toronto sits in 10th place in the Eastern Conference (6-11-4, 22 points). Atlanta is 7-2-3 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium this season, which welcomed an MLS All-Star record crowd of 72,317 people Wednesday night. Atlanta is coming off a 2-1 victory over Montreal Impact at Stade Saputo on July 28. Josef Martinez scored a brace to lead Atlanta to its league-best seventh road win of the season. Martínez leads MLS with 24 goals this season and was named MLS Player of the Month earlier today.
Toronto, last season’s Supporters’ Shield and MLS Cup winner, is coming off two straight wins over the Chicago Fire in league play. On July 28, Toronto beat Chicago 3-0 at BMO Field thanks to goals from Jozy Altidore, Jonathan Osorio, and Sebastian Giovinco.
