Atlanta United sets out to defend its Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup title Wednesday when it hosts Chattanooga FC in the third round of this year’s tournament at Fifth Third Bank Stadium at Kennesaw State University. The match is set to kick off at 7:30 p.m. EST and all U.S. Open Cup matches will be broadcast on ESPN+.

  • After a two-year hiatus, the 107th edition of the U.S. Open Cup sees 17 MLS teams enter in the third round, while the remaining eight MLS teams enter in the next round (Round of 32).
  • Atlanta United is the reigning U.S. Open Cup champions after winning the last edition of the competition in 2019, defeating Charleston Battery, Columbus Crew, Saint Louis FC, Orlando City SC and Minnesota United on its way to the title. 
  • Atlanta is 7-2 all-time in U.S. Open Cup play. The club is also 7-0-0 all-time at Fifth Third Bank Stadium combining U.S. Open Cup (4-0-0) and Concacaf Champions League (3-0-0) matches and has outscored opponents 19-3.
  • Chattanooga defeated USL Championship side Memphis 901 FC 3-1 in the previous round on April 7. Chattanooga was founded in 2009 and currently plays in the National Independent Soccer Association (NISA), considered the third tier of soccer in the U.S. Chattanooga has an 0-0-2 record in NISA play so far this season, including a 0-0 draw against Valley United FC in its last match on April 16.
