Music Monday: Otra, Nitro Fun, Stund, Sultan + Shepard, and ALPHA 9

Otra is a duo of two sisters. Recorded at their home in foggy Pacifica, CA, their debut album ‘I’m Not That Way’ (out digitally on Feb 10, 2023, via Thirty Something Records) documents their journey as they learn to see themselves more clearly and exist outside of expectations. As the band ruminates on their purpose and sense of self, the tracks search for their own sonic identities – weaving and wandering erratically through a fog-fest of hypnagogic synths, chaotic clarinets, haunting vocal stacks, crunchy guitars, and polyrhythmic earth.

Dim Mak welcomes exciting DJ/Producer Nitro Fun to the imprint with the electro-pop single “Never Be The Same,” featuring ethereal vocals from Paige Duché. The single provides a melodic soundscape, as Nitro Fun’s pop-infused dance sounds shine through alongside Paige Duché’s fun vocals.

This release from Nitro Fun is just the beginning of his trajectory with Dim Mak, which comes with a new melodic pop style and an aesthetic that resembles late 90s video games graphics and a cyberpunk atmosphere

Making their return to the release radar, rising Canadian talent Stund links up with mystifying masked DJ and producer Zodiac for their latest sonic endeavor, ‘Upside Down’. The undeniably seductive offering serves as the pair’s release debut on BIJOU’s prolific imprint Do Not Duplicate Recordings (DND Recs). A longtime fan and heavily influenced by the G-House maestro’s original productions, ‘Upside Down’ marks another milestone in Zodiac’s musical career, an exciting feat that further solidifies the talent as a force to be reckoned with in the electronic dance space.

Sultan + Shepard are pleased to announce their new studio album, ‘Forever, Now’ will be released February 17, 2023, on Lane 8’s acclaimed This Never Happened imprint. As a taste of things to come, the album’s first single “Losing Ground” is available to stream now – it’s a beautiful record composed with effortless sweeping melodies and an innate articulate message peppered throughout the incredible vocals delivered by LA-based Tishmal

Artem Stolyarov first arrived on Anjuna’s radar in 2010. What followed was a stellar run under his ARTY alias: ‘Rush’, ‘Zara’, ‘Around The World’, ‘Rebound’, and ‘Kate’ are Anjunabeats classics, and helped define the sound of the label in the early 2010s. Artem’s ALPHA 9 alias is where he has found his stride in recent years. Focusing on the progressive trance that he fell in love with as a teenager, some of Artem’s standout moments as ALPHA 9 include ‘Before The Dawn’, ‘Stellar’, ‘Skin’, and his faithful update of Above & Beyond, and Zoë Johnston’s evergreen classic ‘Good For Me’.
