In the follow-up to Rian Johnson’s Knives Out, Detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) travels to Greece to peel back the layers of a mystery involving a new cast of colorful suspects.
In Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, this fresh adventure finds the intrepid detective at a lavish private estate on a Greek island, but how and why he comes to be there is only the first of many puzzles.
The film assembles another all-star cast that includes a returning Daniel Craig alongside Edward Norton (Miles Bron), Janelle Monáe (Andi Brand), Kathryn Hahn (Claire Debella), Leslie Odom Jr. (Lionel Toussaint), Jessica Henwick (Peg), Madelyn Cline (Whiskey), Kate Hudson (Birdie Jay) and Dave Bautista (Duke Cody).
While the film is a true whodunit through and through, the humor is often overshadowed by the all-around smugness of Miles and the southern drawl of Benoit Blanc. One of the more comical storylines is that of Birdie Jay, an affluent woman who owns an athletic wear company with questionable ethics. For those unaware, Hudson actually dealt with this subject surrounding her own athletic wear company. Bautista was responsible for bringing Guardians of the Galaxy-level comedy to the mix. All-in-all, it’s a fun sequel touting its expected crime and mystery that’ll take your mind off of all the blunders that Netflix is making with cancellations.
Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery gets an 8 out of 10. It’s a fun, crime mystery with loads of star power and no shortage of southern twang from the garrulous Benoit Blanc. Rian Johnson has made the OSCARS nominations list for Best Adapted Screenplay for the film.
