Directed by Shawn Levy, DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE goes the distance and sets itself apart from every Marvel film ever made.
Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) attempts to blend in with working-class society after hanging up his mercenary boots as Deadpool. Life was relatively quiet until the Time Variance Authority (TVA) showed up and reeled him into a new mission. When it appears his timeline will face certain annihilation, he works overtime to recruit a reluctant Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) to join him in saving his world and making Marvel Cinematic history.
Nobody fits the antihero label quite like Deadpool: a vulgar, obscene doer-of-good who loves his friends and does things his way. Those characteristics fit another popular Marvel persona in Wolverine, so the two joining for an unbelievable escapade is the perfect match. Fans have finally had their wish granted to see the two uniting on screen which opens the door to new narratives in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

There’s been a major upheaval in Deadpool’s studio production and Ryan Reynolds was not shy about it one bit. DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE (some may call it Deadpool 3) is the first Deadpool film produced by Marvel Studios — which means no more 20th Century Fox. As opposed to light jabs, Reynolds throws haymakers at his former home at any and every opportunity which makes for nonstop comedy. Speaking of which, there’s nothing that can prepare you for the film’s opening. When I say nonstop comedy, I mean the price of your theatre ticket will have been worth it after the opening credits.
Take what you’ve been exposed to in the last two Deadpool films and multiply that by five. Everything gets taken to the extreme here, from comedy to violence to language that would get anyone else canceled within seconds. And forget that it’s summer because Deadpool 3 feels like Easter! Keep your eyes peeled the entire movie because it’s riddled with easter eggs. This film is going to change the MCU forever and it’s sure to be a summer box office hit.
DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE gets a 9 out of 10. Fans will be impressed with how closely the film follows the comics. Hardcore purists will be pleased with the level of authenticity to the point where criticisms of the film should be no more than a lull. The comedy and fight scenes are unbelievable and the two intertwine often. My only two gripes are exactly how violent some of the fights get and Deadpool’s numerous claims to be, “The Messiah” and “Marvel Jesus”. The first two times got a smirk out of me, but by the fourth one, it felt tired. Parents need to know this is by no means a typical Marvel film. They bust on the scenes with an R-rated TV series last year and here they have their first in film. It’s extremely violent and the language is overtly offensive to the point some of it felt like too much.
DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE will be in theaters on July 26.
