An action flick worth raving about, The Accountant 2 follows Christian Wolff (Ben Affleck), the talented numbers guy who has a knack for solving complex problems. When U.S. Treasury Deputy Director Marybeth Medina (Cynthia Addai-Robinson) investigates a mysterious murder, she’s directed to find Wolff, who’s compelled to help solve the case. As they dive into the investigation, they quickly discover that things aren’t as straightforward as they thought they would be.
For those just jumping into the franchise, it’s a sequel that stands on its own as a fine film. For those following up from the first film, you’ll notice a softer tone in the second, but don’t let that fool you. This is an extremely solid film. A socially awkward, talented problem solver and his hard-nose, extremely lethal brother (Jon Bernthal) team up to uncover a conspiracy and take challenge a whole network of killers.

Brax (Bernthal) is absolutely hilarious. He’s in tune emotionally and communicates his past grievances with his brother, all while feeding into his thirst for violence. Christian is so good at problem-solving that he convinced Brax to get a cat instead of a dog just based on his personality and daily habits. Their relationship, though a bit tumultuous, was entertaining and grew organically without flooding us with clichés and predictable outcomes.
The film’s release comes at a perfect time. The year is set to have a loaded “action” category, and this week’s release is starting to look like a sweet spot. Films like Back in Action and The Gorge kicked off 2025 on streaming, with April blockbusters The Amateur and Warfare taking over theaters. With The Accountant 2 set to close out April, it seems that the Amazon/MGM Studios project will have the next few weeks exclusively to wreak havoc in theaters.

Directed by Gavin O’Connor, The Accountant 2 is the action flick of the spring. The Hangover style “hang out” tone that’s conveyed makes it easy to watch, and the fight scenes even easier to digest. You’ll find yourself rooting for the socially awkward guy (Wolff) as he solves the most difficult problems with the greatest of ease. This film is an easy award nod for Bernthal. We’ll be talking about his role for months to come.
The Accountant 2 gets a 9 out of 10. The entire cast is great. I love Daniella Pineda and her portrayal of a wronged loved one set on revenge. I wish we had more J.K. Simmons, but I get it. Trailers can often be misleading, having audiences think a certain actor or character will have a broader role when they actually don’t—he is that casualty, sadly. There’s no time for sappy love stories or fluff here, just hardcore action and intricate problems with complex solutions.
The Accountant 2 premieres in theaters on April 25.
