The Federación Mexicana de Futbol (FMF) and Soccer United Marketing (SUM) today announced that the Mexican Men’s National Team will host two of Asia’s top squads, Japan and the Korea Republic, in September on the road to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
On Saturday, September 6, Mexico will face Japan, presented by AT&T, at the historic Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum in Northern California, in a match featuring two nations that have already secured their places in the 2026 tournament. Three days later, on Tuesday, September 9, Mexico will play the Korea Republic. The venue will be announced at a later date.
Both matches will be played during a FIFA international window, allowing all three countries to bring their full-strength squads. This past March, Japan became the first non-host nation to officially qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Japan is led by their Captain, Liverpool defender Wataru Endo, as well as Real Sociedad winger Takefusa Kubo and Monaco attacking midfielder Takumi Minamino.
Korea Republic currently leads Group B in Asian qualifying and is well-positioned to book its place, with qualification within reach over the remaining fixtures. The squad is powered by Son Heung-min, a world-class forward who captains both South Korea and EPL’s Tottenham Hotspur. Other standouts include Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Lee Kang-in and Bayern Munich defender Kim Min-jae.
Tickets for the Oakland game will go on sale on Monday, May 19, at 10 a.m. local time at www.SomosLocales.com. Fans are encouraged to pre-register at the same site for future ticket information and to gain first access to limited ticket inventory across all venues.
Oakland and the Bay Area have hosted a number memorable Mexico matches over the years. The team last played Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum during MexTour in 2011, in a 3-1 victory over Paraguay in front of nearly 50,000 fans.
MexTour 2025 kicks off Saturday, June 7, in Salt Lake City, where Mexico will face Switzerland, followed by a match on Tuesday, June 10, in Chapel Hill, NC, against Türkiye.
The MexTour has become one of the most celebrated sports properties in the United States, with a robust list of blue-chip commercial partners, appearances by celebrities and influencers, and an average attendance of over 50,000 per match in the last decade, thanks to its estimated fan base of 65 million people (study: Nielsen Sports). The tour has delighted sports fans across the nation with marquee soccer matches against top opponents at world-class venues, including all but one of the U.S. stadiums scheduled to host 2026 FIFA World Cup matches. More than a game, each tour stop features the AT&T Futbol Fiesta fan fest, as well as fan and media events throughout the markets. The MexTour allows the team to prepare for important competitions such as the Concacaf Gold Cup and the FIFA World Cup.
The 2025 MexTour is sponsored by 7UP, Adidas, AT&T, Burger King, Crest, Gillette, Casillero del Diablo, Clamato, El Mexicano® Brand, Gran Centenario Tequila, McCafe at Home, Michelob ULTRA, Old Spice, Peñafiel, The Home Depot, Squirt, and Strauss. The matches will be broadcast nationally on the TelevisaUnivision family of networks, Fox Deportes in English, and the Univision Radio Network.
