DC Power kicked off the spring portion of its schedule on Thursday night against Dallas Trinity. The two sides drew level after 90 minutes, sharing points at the end of the night. Loza Abera scored for the hosts, while Bethany Bos brought the match level for the visitors. Power is fighting for playoff contention while Trinity sits six points behind league leaders Sporting JAX.
DC Power Starting XI: Makenna Gottschalk, Anna Bagley, Claire Constant, Sydney Cummings (c), Paige Almendariz, Lexi Fraley, Alexis Theoret, Emily Colton, Loza Abera, Alyssa Walker, Gianna Gourley.
Dallas Trinity Starting XI: Lauren Flynn, Heather Stainbrook, Lexi Missimo, Maya McCutcheon, Sealey Strawn, Cyera Hintzen, Chioma Ubogagu, Samar Guidry, Amber Wisner (c), Tyler McCamey, Bethany Bos.
Loza Abera scored her fourth goal of the season in the 16th minute. After a missed clearance by Dallas Trinity, Abera approached the ball and fired a rocket past the keeper.
Later in the half, Paige Almendariz sent in a beautiful cross to Gianna Gourley, but Lauren Flynn’s tight defending forced her off the ball just enough for the ball to bounce out for a goal kick.
Dallas was able to equalize just a minute and a half before halftime through Bethany Bos. Lexi Missimo took a spot kick from outside the box to the right side. She lobbed a perfect ball into the box, finding a leaping Bos to head it past Makenna Gottschalk to draw the game level.
In the 80th minute, Dasia Torbert had a good opportunity to break the deadlock from point-blank range inside the keeper’s box. Unfortunately, she aimed her shot directly at goalkeeper Tyler McCamey.
Trinity mounted a response with three minutes remaining and almost broke through. Camryn Lancaster took on three defenders, dribbled inside the box, and took a shot on target that forced Gottschalk to make a diving save. Immediately, DC responded with a counterattack on the other end. Emily Colton was attacking down the right flank and sent a cross into the center of the box. A pacing Gianna Gourley made it to the ball but was unable to convert.
DC Power will take what they’ve learned tonight and prepare for their next match on Tuesday, March 17, when they host Carolina Ascent FC. Tickets are still available.
