Atlanta Dream forward Angel Reese has been named WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week, the league announced today. Reese was also named the AP Player of the Week yesterday. The honor is Reese’s first with Atlanta and third of her three-year WNBA career.
Reese powered the Dream to a 3-0 week with wins over Las Vegas (Aug. 18), Los Angeles (Aug. 20) and Phoenix (Aug. 22), averaging 24.0 points, 11.3 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 3.7 steals while shooting 67.4 percent from the field. She recorded a double-double in all three games.
The three-game run marked one of the most dominant stretches of Reese’s career. After opening the week with her 24th double-double of the season against Las Vegas, she went a perfect 9-for-9 from the field against Los Angeles, setting a Dream franchise record for most made field goals without a miss. Reese also became the first player in WNBA history to record at least 20 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists while shooting 100 percent from the field. During the week, she also set the WNBA single-season offensive rebounds record and recorded her league-leading 25th double-double.
Reese capped the week with a career-high 31 points and 14 rebounds in Atlanta’s win at Phoenix. The performance marked her third consecutive game with at least 20 points and 10 rebounds and made her just the third player in WNBA history to record 20+ points, 10+ rebounds and 3+ steals in three straight games, joining A’ja Wilson and Nneka Ogwumike. Reese finished the week with her league-leading 26th double-double of the season.
Reese becomes the second Dream player to earn Eastern Conference Player of the Week honors this season, joining USA Basketball World Cup teammate Rhyne Howard, and the 12th player in franchise history to receive the award.
Reese continued her historic run following the award period, pulling down a WNBA-record 26 rebounds Monday night against Los Angeles while surpassing Wilson’s WNBA single-season rebounds record of 451. The victory completed Atlanta’s first 4-0 road trip in franchise history.
