The ladies of U.S. Soccer have taken their talents across the pond to Portugal to participate in the Algarve Cup.
The United States were placed in Group B alongside Sweden, Japan, and Denmark. The first match against Japan was played to a draw but Sweden were the ones to hand the ladies their first loss in 43 games (2 years). Losing 1-0 means that we now have to fight for a chance to play for 3rd place in the tournament, a position the U.S. doesn’t often find itself.
Ranking 3rd in their group now with a single point, everything now lies on the game Monday, March 10th against Denmark.

Here are highlights from their loss to Sweden, their 1st in 2 years.
If you remember, just 2 weeks ago the USA led a destructive charge against Russia beating them in Atlanta 8-0 before heading off to Portugal. This will be a good lesson not just for the ladies but also for Coach Tom Sermanni. They can use this opportunity to build and make corrections before World Cup qualifying begins for next year’s tournament in Canada.
