Atlanta United begins its second MLS season Saturday against 2017 Western Conference finalist Houston Dynamo at BBVA Compass Stadium. The match is scheduled to kick-off at 3:30 p.m. EST and will be nationally televised on Univision.
Atlanta and Houston both finished fourth in their respective conferences a year ago. Atlanta won the first-ever meeting between the two with a 4-1 victory at Bobby Dodd Stadium on May 20, 2017 behind a hat trick from Miguel Almirón and a goal by Julian Gressel.
After an impressive inaugural season that saw Atlanta break multiple attendance and on-field records, the club was active in the offseason. Atlanta signed Greg Garza and Jeff Larentowicz to new deals, acquired Ezequiel Barco, Franco Escobar, José Hernández, Mitch Hildebrandt, Darlington Nagbe and Sal Zizzo, signed George Bello and Lagos Kunga to Homegrown contracts and drafted Jon Gallagher and Oliver Shannon in the MLS SuperDraft.
