Atlanta United opens the 2020 MLS season on Saturday as it travels to face expansion side Nashville FC in the club’s inaugural match at Nissan Stadium. The match will be nationally televised on FOX/FOX Deportes with coverage starting at 8 p.m. ET.

The club advanced to the quarterfinals of the Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League Tuesday night with a 4-1 aggregate win (1-1, 3-0) against FC Motagua. Josef Martinez and Pity Martinez each tallied two goals and two assists over the two legs. Atlanta will face Mexico’s Club America March 11 at Estadio Azteca with the return leg set for March 18 at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.

Atlanta has recorded the most points (182) and wins (54) in MLS over the past three seasons since its debut in 2017. The club has also scored the most goals of any expansion team during its first three seasons with 198, surpassing the Chicago Fire’s mark of 180.

Josef Martinez owns the MLS record for most goals scored in a three-season span with 77 regular-season goals and entering 2020 is just eight shy of Bradley Wright Phillips’ record for most goals over four seasons (85). Martinez is just the seventh player in the 25-year history of the league to score at least 15 goals in three consecutive seasons, a record Wright Phillips also holds with five straight seasons from 2014-2018.

Atlanta will look to add to its MLS-best regular season away wins total since 2017 (20) and to win its first MLS season opener against one of the league’s two expansion sides in 2020. Head coach Gary Smith led Nashville SC to a 20-7-7 record and a playoff appearance in the USL Championship in 2019 and Daniel Rios led the team with 20 goals. Nashville SC has MLS veterans in Dax McCarty, Walker Zimmerman, and David Accam and signed Designated Player Hany Mukhtar to lead its attack in its first MLS campaign.
