An exciting nine days of professional tennis is set to return to Atlanta and Atlantic Station this summer at the 2022 Atlanta Open. Once again, the event will feature many of the top singles and doubles players in the world, including six-time champion John Isner, and a historic women’s exhibition match on Sunday evening. The Atlanta Open is one of the 10 ATP World Tour events in the United States and annually takes place to start the road to the US Open. Action this year will run from July 23-31, in Midtown, Atlanta.
“All-session weeklong packages are on sale now,” stated Eddie Gonzalez, Tournament Director, GF Sports and Entertainment. “I couldn’t be more excited about the men’s draws we will have this year and our opening night women’s exhibition featuring Coco Gauff and Leylah Fernandez. Our stadium will sell out!”
Gonzalez added:

Player commitments:
John Isner: Looking to add to history, Isner will return looking to make history with a seventh Atlanta title. The former University of Georgia All-American has been a fixture in the Top-10 for over a decade as well as the highest-ranked American. He is the defending champ and 36-5 at this event. Isner is the third American man in the Open Era to win at least six titles at the same tournament. The other two are Pete Sampras (seven at Wimbledon) and Andre Agassi (six in Miami). Isner is also the oldest American to win a title on the ATP Tour since 37-year-old Jimmy Connors in Tel Aviv in 1989.
“I can’t wait to get back to Atlanta and Atlantic Station this July,” said Isner. “After winning six titles, I’ll be looking for a seventh in Atlanta and I’m eager to get out there with all the Bulldog fans and compete with a great field to kick off my US summer swing.”
Taylor Fritz: The 24-year old American is off to a fast start in 2022. A 2019 singles finalist in Atlanta, Fritz is at a career-high ranking of 13, fresh off a title at the BNP Paribas open defeating Rafael Nadal in straight sets in the finals. He also reached the fourth round at the 2022 Australian Open. He’s a fan favorite in Atlanta and could be knocking on the door of the Top 10 come July.
“I’ve had some of my best results the past three years in Atlanta, so it’s great to start my summer on the hardcourts of Atlantic Station,” stated Fritz. “Atlanta has great tennis fans and they have always given me great support, so I encourage them to come out and be loud!”
Reilly Opelka: At 6’11” and boasting one of the biggest serves in tennis history, Opelka’s game is tailor-made for the high bouncing hardcourts of Atlantic Station. The 24-year old is a two-time Atlanta semi-finalist and so far in 2022, he reached his career-high ranking of 17 and won his third career ATP title indoors in Dallas.
“Playing Atlanta to start my summer is the best preparation for the US Open,” said Opelka. “I love the experience at Atlantic Station and all the fans. I always play my best tennis in Atlanta.”
Once again, our Sunday Showdown Delivered by UPS women’s match will start the week. This year’s Sunday Showdown features a popular young American taking on an upstart Canadian.

Coco Gauff: The 18-year old American is already one of the most popular players on the WTA Tour. The Delray Beach, Fla. resident, who grew up in Georgia received a wild card entry to Wimbledon in 2019 when she was 15, she defeated five-time Wimbledon champion, Venus Williams, in the first round. That year Gauff also reached the third round of the U.S. Open and won her first singles title at Linz. In 2021, she added a second singles title to her name and reached the quarterfinals of the French Open. Gauff was added to the U.S. Olympic team in June 2021 but didn’t play. She is currently ranked No. 19 in singles and No. 10 in doubles.
“It will be great to be back in Atlanta and play in front of friends who haven’t been able to see me play professionally yet in my early career,” explained Gauff. “I feel a connection to the Atlanta community and its great tennis fans.”
Leylah Fernandez: The 21-year old Canadian makes her first trip to Atlanta. A native of Montreal, Fernandez reached the finals of the 2021 US Open, defeating Naomi Osaka, Angelique Kerber and Aryna Sabalenka to reach the singles finals. She owns two career titles and reached the second round of the Tokyo Olympics. To conclude 2021, she was named the Canadian female athlete of the year. Fernandez is currently ranked No. 21 by the WTA.
“I’m very excited to be starting my summer in Atlanta with a match against Coco,” offered Fernandez. “We’ve never played an official match on the WTA Tour, so this will be something special not only for Coco and me but also for the Atlanta community tennis fans.”
These two young professionals have never met in tournament play.
