Major League Soccer today announced that Atlanta United forward Josef Martínez has won the 2022 AT&T MLS Goal of the Year for his bicycle kick against New England Revolution on Oct. 1, marking the third time the club has won the fan-voted award.

The goal came in the 81st minute when Brooks Lennon floated a ball from the right edge of the New England penalty area toward Martínez at the back post. The Venezuelan struck the cross sweetly with an overhead kick, finishing past Djordje Petrovic [WATCH HERE].

The strike is Martinez’s second MLS Goal of the Year win after securing the honor in 2019 and the third for the club, with Tito Villalba securing the award in 2017.

The 2022 AT&T MLS Goal of the Year was determined by fan votes on MLSsoccer.com and has been awarded since the league’s inaugural 1996 season.
