Atlanta United fell 2-1 to New England Revolution Wednesday night at Gillette Stadium. Atlanta put a season-high 11 shots on target and Machop Chol scored his second goal of the season.
Matthew Polster opened the scoring for New England in the fourth minute. Brooks Lennon headed a clearance toward the top of Atlanta’s box but the ball fell to the Revolution midfielder who hit a low strike into goal.
The Revolution doubled their lead in the ninth minute. Carles Gil collected a loose ball in his own half and delivered a long through ball to play Giacomo Vrioni in on goal. The Italian striker dribbled the ball around Brad Guzan for an easy finish, upping the lead to two.
Atlanta put four shots on target in the first half and created its best opportunity on goal in the 26th minute. Thiago Almada played a long diagonal ball from the left wing to Lennon who was unmarked at the far post, but his shot went straight at Djordje Petrovic.
In the final minute of stoppage time, Atlanta found a consolation goal through homegrown superstar Machop Chol. The youngster recovered the ball inside the box from Andrew Farrell and smashed a left-footed shot into the top corner from close range to prevent a clean sheet for New England.
