By all accounts, it’s been a relatively quiet offseason for the Washington Spirit. The two-time NWSL Finalists haven’t made much noise during the break, announcing a handful of quiet signings (non-impact players) and several notable departures.

All of that changed last night. From Los Angeles, California, Michelle Kang and the Washington Spirit front office hosted an event to announce the re-signing of superstar Trinity Rodman through the 2028 season. The USWNT star stole attention during the winter break for a newly adopted “Rodman Rule” (High Impact Player), which allows teams to spend up to $1 million above the salary cap for specific star players who meet certain league-defined criteria. Some of those measures include marketability or being a top player in major awards/voting lists.

• Italian defender Lucia Di Guglielmo (three-year contract with a 2029 team option) from AS Roma
• Goalkeeper Sara Wojdelko from Vanderbilt University (one-year contract, first 2026 rookie signing)

• The Washington Spirit has recalled goalkeeper Sara Wojdelko from her loan with DC Power FC of the Gainbridge Super League as she continues to rehab from injury, the clubs announced today.
• Defender Gabby Carle signed a new contract through the 2029 season. The Canadian agreed to a new five-year contract, retroactive to the start of the 2025 season. 
• Goalkeeper Kaylie Collins signed a new one-year contract through the 2026 season
• Defender Tara Rudd (formerly McKeown) has agreed to a new contract through the 2028 season ( 2029 & 2030 club options and signing bonus)
• Defender Kate Wiesner has agreed to a new three-year contract with a 2029 club option and will replace her current contract that was set to expire at the end of this year.
