Match Preview: Atlanta United vs. Charlotte FC

Atlanta United returns to action Saturday when hosts Charlotte FC at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The match is set to kick-off at 7:30 p.m. ESTand will be broadcast on MLS Season Pass, while fans can also tune-in to radio calls on 92.9 The Game and La Mejor.

MLS Season Pass features every match of the regular season and Audi MLS Cup Playoffs with consistent match times and no blackouts. The service also features MLS Countdown, the live pre-game show before every match, live halftime reports, MLS 360 — a fast-moving whip-around show that will provide live look-ins and analysis from all the key moments from every match, and MLS Wrap-up, the live post-game show. All matches feature commentary in English or Spanish, while matches involving Canadian teams will also have French commentary. Fans in the U.S. and Canada also have the option to select their home team’s radio for broadcast audio on the Apple TV app where available.

  • Atlanta holds a 2-1-0 all-time record against Charlotte in MLS regular season play: 1-0-0 at home and 1-1-0 on the road. Atlanta won the most recent meeting 3-0 at Charlotte on March 11 as Caleb Wiley scored two goals and added an assist in a Player of the Matchday 3 performance. 
  • Atlanta has scored the most goals (20) in the Eastern Conference entering Matchday 12, trailing only St. Louis CITY SC in MLS play. Atlanta is the only team in MLS to score in every game this season.
  • Atlanta continues to lead MLS with five goals scored in the first 15 minutes of matches this season. Atlanta scored twice within the first 12 minutes at Charlotte on March 11. The visitors are tied for the most goals conceded in the opening 15 minutes in MLS this season (three).
  • The team has been effective on set pieces, leading MLS with eight goals scored off of set pieces including five from corners, two from direct free kicks and one penalty. Atlanta’s five goals from corners also lead MLS after Andrew Gutman’s goal against Inter Miami CF in Matchday 11.
  • Charlotte heads into Saturday in 12th place in the Eastern Conference with a 3-5-3 record. The team is coming off consecutive victories against New York City FC in Matchday 11 and against Orlando City SC midweek in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Leading goal scorer Enzo Copetti is suspended due to yellow card accumulation, however Charlotte’s attack features Karol Swiderski, Kamil Jozwiak and Kerwin Vargas who have each recorded at least two goals and two assists in 2023.
